Placemat and Napkins

Placemats and napkins are a great way to decorate your table, or give as a gift.  It's never too early to start those Holiday projects!  This is a quilt as you go project.  In class you will make one placemat and two napkins.   A great beginners project.  See our four examples.












Machine Binding 101
Friday February 22, 1-4 pm
Class Fee: $35

Learn the basics of machine binding.  This class will focus on "straight" binding and you will be sewing the binding by machine.  Great techniques for the perfect machine binding.  You will be making a reference sample sandwich and will not be attaching to an actual quilt.




Elephant and I, Quilt or Pillow

Let’s have some fun with paper piecing. This class is great for a beginner or anyone who enjoys paper piecing.  You will learn how to make and join multiple units of a design.  You will also learn how to appliqué your completed design to a background for a pillow top or a nice sized wall hanging.  Please come to class with your pattern transferred to paper piecing foundation paper.















Class Act Pillow - English Paper Piecing (2 classes)

Here’s your chance to take a traditional design and make it modern.  In this class you will learn an easy English paper piecing system combined with the option of machine piecing to easily insert pointed fabric pieces between the wedges.  So you’ll experience the diverse, become distinctive, and dare to be different with Distinctive Dresdens.  In this two session class you will make your choice of a square, hexagonal, triangle or pentagon shaped pillow.











Butterfly Pillow
Wednesday February 28, March 7, 11-4  (2sessions)

Who doesn't love butterflies.   Simple machine applique, a bit of hand stitching or you can do by machine.  Learn to apply cording and put in a zipper.  We will also quilt the pillow.  First class we will be making the pillow top and the second class will be making the pillow.  Finished size 18 X 18.
















Mini Lap Quilt Series

On the first Friday of each month, beginning in March, Judy will be teaching a series of mini lap quilts. These quilts will reinforce or expand your techniques with different blocks every month to create mini lap quilts.  The fabrics required are predominantly fat quarters.  There is one book (Fat Quarter Style) required for the entire year!  If you want a larger quilt, the size instructions are included up to queen size quilts.
















Machine Applique
Saturday March 3, 1:30 to 4:30p

This is a great class for some quick gifts just in time for any holiday!  Every hostess loves a new tea towel!  Susan will teach you all her tricks & tips for making your machine applique look professional.  Machine applique is adorable on little baby bibs, little onesies & of course any quilt you have in mind and have been afraid to tackle.  We will be using a number of applique stitches for this class, even a “faux” hand applique technique she does on the machine.  It looks just like hand applique!!!  



Decorative Pillow
Tuesday March 6, 11-4

We all love pillows and finding the right ones for our home can be daunting!   Learn to make your own with beautiful piping and a zipper.  Easy to change out the cover any time you like.













Duffel Bag
Time:  Wednesday March 7 and 14, 11-4pm
Class Fee: $60

You can make a beautiful quilted weekend bag that rivals a popular designer!  Using a pattern book by Cindy Taylor Oates, this class will be conducted over two days so that you can complete this project after attending both classes.  

On the first class, you will cut and quilt the fabric for the bag and pockets. 

In the second class,  we will construct the bag with pockets and the zipper closure. 

Our sample is the medium size. 






















Roundabout Bag

In this class, we will make the Runaround Bag from Lazy Girl designs.  This is a great little purse with a lined interior, back pocket and zip closure.  It is a great, cross body, size for a shopping trip, quilt show or night out when you don’t want a large bag.  The finished bag is 7” by 9”.  This would make a great gift for your friends, teens or college students.  This is an easy to make, functional bag.  You will learn to add a zipper as well as how to follow a pattern.  





















Beginning Quilting -Squares and Logs

Let us introduce you to an exciting new hobby.   Sewing is a great stress relief and keeps your mind active.   And it is so fun to create!  Learn the latest in notions, strip sewing and how to match your seams like a pro. This class will take you from the basics right up to binding your finished quilt. There will be homework after each class so you are prepared for the next session.















Gored Skirt

Have you been thinking of how fun it would be to make your own clothes?  The gored skirt is a simple but elegant way to begin your venture into making your own clothes.  You will learn how to cut out a pattern, sew french seams, topstitch, elastic insertion and sewing a hem with decorative stitches.  Pattern comes in three lengths.



Ripples
Friday March 16, 11-4

Ripples is a quilt designed by Jean Ann Wright in her book Curvy Log Cabin Quilts.  This class will cover the technique of using the Curved Log Cabin ruler.  Using this ruler eliminates the time cutting each log to exact size before sewing.  Once you’ve mastered the use of this ruler, the options for adding movement to log cabin quilts are unlimited!














Coneflower

If you haven’t been in one of Susan’s Embellishment classes now is your chance!  This is one of her very favorites and she loves Coneflowers in every color!  

The unique textures of this little piece of art will really surprise you.  Using unique fabrics and unique threads you can create one of your own!  

The embroidery stitches are considered Stumpwork Stitches (3-D stitching) and many, many more!  The textural elements will inspire you to make more for a little fabric book, a little garland, or wall quilt.















Brimfield Block - English Paper Piecing

Let’s join in making a new kind of English Paper Pieced design.  

This wall hanging will introduce you to a perforated paper template concept along with bringing back an old block design that was discovered in the Antiques Stores in Brimfield, Massachusetts.  

Once you have finished the initial block you can make a small wall hanging or a pillow top, the choice is up to you.

This class will introduce you to machine quilting techniques.  If you have tried to machine quilt and were frustrated with your results, this class will improve your skills.  Susan will help you with any problems you may be having, so you can enjoy the creativity of free motion stitching.
















Garden Girls

This class will focus on creating a small collage quilt or series of quilts to incorporate photo transferred images, hand embroidery, interesting fabrics, and texture using 3-D flowers which we will create using unique techniques.  Susan will walk you through each step of these little quilts!  They could be hung all together or would make great gifts for special friends and family!  We will be using many different fabrics such as hand dyed fabrics, felted wool, cheesecloth and more.  You can't make just one!!!

Carpenter Star

The carpenter star is a popular quilt.  You can make a wallhanging or a quilt.  It's up to you.  The technique is the same, it's the size of the blocks that make the difference.  Great fat quarter projects with half square triangles.  



Spring Morning or Winter Nights

This is a great first quilt to make!  Or maybe you just need a fun & easy project to jump start your new year.  Using batiks for this stunning quilt will make it so much fun to choose the fabrics.  The Sizzix will be used for all the applique pieces (or if you don’t have a Sizzix you can cut the appliques other ways).  A very quick project for those cold winter nights.























Edge to Edge Quilting in the Hoop

Do you need to get your quilt done and don’t have time to get it to your favorite longarm quilter?  Well, this class will help you solve that problem.  You will learn an Easy –Connect quilting technique for edge-to-edge quilting using your home embroidery machine.  The class will cover all the steps you need to know from making a template, stabilizing the hoop, preparing your quilt for stitching and finally stitching the design on your quilt.

Do you want to learn how to paper piece?  This is the class for you.  The Two Baby Sisters pattern will teach you the basics of paper piecing in a fun, small project.  You will be making a large star, small star and an accent strip into a 12” x 19” placemat.  This is a beginner’s class.

I love the Snails Trail block, just the name cracks me up!   Snails Trail combined with other blocks makes for a striking quilt.  














T shirt Quilt  
Friday June 22 and 29, 1-4

Gather your T-shirts and make a one of a kind quilt.  We will go over the basics of T-shirt quilt making and different layouts from simple to more creative.  Please note this is NOT a beginner's class. You must have a working knowledge of accurate rotary cutting, measuring with rulers, 1/4 inch seams, pressing and squaring up. And a little math to make your T shirt pieces fit is also helpful!  No machine required for first class.
