Beginning Quilting    (Night Class)
Date:  Wednesday September 13,20,27, 6-9 pm

No experience necessary!  In this 3 session series you will learn the fundamentals of rotary cutting, piecing, and adding borders, while making the Squares and Logs quilt. Then you will learn how to sandwich the top, batting and backing together, including basting and simple machine quilting.  You will then take the binding class to learn how to make binding.  The binding class is a separate class, but is free for those who are taking this beginning class.














Limenitis Archippus
Friday September 22, 11-4p

Limenitis Archippua explores how changing the placement of colors in a single block changes the block itself to create a unique secondary design.  You will also be shown several methods of achieving accuracy using squaring up techniques.  The pattern is included in the class fee, it's Judy's original pattern.













Modern Medley Top

Do you need a new spring top brighten up your wardrobe? Let’s get some of those luscious prints and some beautiful buttons and get to work.  This slightly oversized top features two options for length and easy to sew dolman sleeves.  We will be doing View D for construction technique, but you can do either length to suit your personal style.  





















Lil Critters

These little quilts are the most fun to make.  First we will perfect our machine applique skills for the precise applique of the animal.  The pattern includes a frog, bunny, or teddy.  Then we will draw lines on the background to write the story to be machine quilted.  Quilting something you already know such as hand writing, your machine quilting skills will improve more than you can imagine!  The quilt will be finished using a 7/8” - 1” rick rack as a little surprise added in the binding.

















Seeds and Pods of Creativity

This class is Susan’s newest class!  It is going to be a fun journey seeing what unique ways we can make hand stitched seeds & pods inspired from nature.  These little treasures can be done for a Wish Flag, Prayer Flag, Garland, Fabric Book or a Wall Quilt.  Learn many different Stumpwork (three-dimensional/raised embroidery stitching) techniques and fun embroidery stitches, some from the 1600 - 1700’s.  You’ll learn some fun things using beautiful threads and fibers!  Everything from Organdy to velvet and silk cocoons.  It’s fun, inspiring and yes you will learn many embellishing techniques.


Cathedral Windows Simplified       Night Class

So you think hand sewing is a “four” letter word?  Well, this quilt is the second in the series of Cathedral Window quilts.  The quilt you’ll be making in class is just the right size for a baby’s play mat.  You will be doing all the sewing with your machine, forget the hand sewing on this one.

Learn to create an illusion of curves, waves and swirls quilt using the Curvy Log Cabin ruler.  You will piece several blocks together to give the illusion of swirls.




















Clothesline Bag

Fun new method using clothesline to make a one of a kind bag.  Use one fabric or a variety of coordinated fabrics like Carla did.   Just like potato chips...you won't be able to just make one.   Class attendees made bowls and floor mats using this technique.   Lots of fun and the shape is all your own design.















Elephant and I

This is one of our most popular classes.  Learn to paper piece the elephant on a pieced background.
Looks complicated but these are large pieces and a great beginning paper piecing class.














Club Sandwich Table Runner
Saturday Oct 21, 12:30 to 4:30
Class Fee: $40

This is a lovely and easy table runner for a beginner.  You will learn to do accurate cutting and to sew ¼ inch seams for seams that line up beautifully. In class, we will complete the entire top of the runner, and if time permits, we will add the batting and backing and start some “in the ditch” quilting so that you can quilt this piece yourself!  By using a coordinating fabric on the back, you can make this piece reversible.  You will need to purchase the book Let’s Do Lunch, and will be make the Club Sandwich runner that is pictured on the back cover.  You will need at least four coordinating fabrics in whatever color scheme or theme you wish.

Do you like the “ Shabby Chic” look?  Here is a wall hanging, bed runner or cute throw to show off your favorite colors.  This class will teach you how to use the precise positioning features on your embroidery machine.  The finished project incorporates patchwork, machine embroidery and traditional quilting.  You can make one, two, or three rows of embroidered lacy flowers with candle wicking accents.  Add sashing, patchwork rows and borders and you’ll have a beautiful finished quilt.





















Machine Binding 101
Wednesday November 1, 1-4p

Learn the basics of machine binding.  This class will focus on "straight" binding and you will be sewing the binding by machine.  Great techniques for the perfect machine binding.  You will be making a reference sample sandwich and will not be attaching to an actual quilt.

The holidays are coming and here is the perfect project to make for all your sewing friends.  This can be a one of a kind gift they won’t forget.  Learn how to use your embroidery machine to do almost all the work. You can add buttons or other embellishments to personalize your flower.  We will be making the medium flower in class.

















Duffel Bag

You can make a beautiful quilted weekend bag that rivals a popular designer!  Using a pattern book by Cindy Taylor Oates, this class will be conducted over two days so that you can complete this project after attending both classes.  

On the first class, we will cut and quilt the fabric for the bag and pockets. 

In the second class,  we will construct the bag with pockets and the zipper closure. 






















Cathedral Windows Simplified        Night Class

This quilt is the last in a series of Cathedral Window quilts.  This time we’re going back to the basics.  You will learn how to make traditional Cathedral Window blocks.  From there you can decide just how large you want to make your quilt.  Four blocks will make a nice sized mug rug or candle mat.  Add a few more blocks and you can have a nice sized place mat or pillow top – you decide.  




















Edge to Edge Quilting in the Hoop

Do you need to get your quilt done and don’t have time to get it to your favorite longarm quilter?  Well, this class will help you solve that problem.  You will learn an Easy –Connect quilting technique for edge-to-edge quilting using your home embroidery machine.  The class will cover all the steps you need to know from making a template, stabilizing the hoop, preparing your quilt for stitching and finally stitching the design on your quilt.




















T shirt Quilt                      (Night Class)

Gather your T-shirts and make a one of a kind quilt.  We will go over the basics of T-shirt quilt making and different layouts from simple to more creative.  Please note this is NOT a beginner's class. You must have a working knowledge of accurate rotary cutting, measuring with rulers, 1/4 inch seams, pressing and squaring up. And a little math to make your T shirt pieces fit is also helpful!

Little House on the Hill

This tiny little house is a work of art!  It’s all about embellishing using vintage and hand dyed fabrics with hand embroidery.  Susan will walk you through each step of one of her newest 3-D creations using fun and funky techniques!  We will be using several different types of fabrics, such as hand dyed Cheesecloth, Silk/Rayon Velvet, Osnaburg and more!  There is nothing more fun than stitching and creating your own little world atop a hill of fabrics and threads!  There will be several options of houses, such as a winter house, a Tiki Hut for the beach, one with lots of flowers and more!  It’s a tiny piece but so beautiful! 



























Modern Dresden

Let’s have some fun – shading colors and taking a step forward in your paper piecing skills.  In this class you will learn more about the use of value and shading that will help add sparkle to this and other quilts you may make.  Students should have some previous paper piecing experience.  This is a confident beginners class.  $3.00 fee for paper foundation pieces.
